Jimmy was released from his calling of four years this past Sunday. The week after we moved in, he was called as the second counselor in the young men's presidency, and later was made Scoutmaster. He has absolutely loved his calling. If you were to ask him the highlights of our time here in Dallas, I am certain that working with the young men would fit right at the top. It has meant that much to him.
I am assuming that I will be released from my calling in the Relief Society presidency this coming Sunday. I've only been doing this for eighteen months, but have also loved and appreciated the experience of working closely with wonderful and inspiring women. I have had opportunities to serve and have learned so much about leadership, delegation and about Christ-like love. It was an answer to prayer to be able to serve in this calling.
It is interesting, the way the Church works. We are asked to volunteer our time, energy and talents to the building of the Church and the gospel. In some cases, great sacrifices are made to perform our Church duties. Long hours are spent, and great energy is exhausted in the magnification of Church callings. And yet, my experience shows that the growth and progress and blessings come to not only those receiving the service but even more so to the person offering the service, the one who magnifies their calling.
For us, that is the case. We feel extremely blessed as we are wrapping up this time in our lives for the opportunities that have been ours through our Church callings, and for the people we have grown to really care for.
And though it is hard for us to leave our Dallas home and ward, we are confident that there is another ward out there for us to love and to serve in and we know that it can be just the same in Hawaii.
What about you mamas? What do you love about serving in the Church? Do you have a favorite calling? I would love to hear.

My favourite calling is the one I have now... my husband and I team teach the 12 and 13 year old Sunday School class. I love that we get to do it together. I am learning so much in there and I love watching my husband do his part each week. Teaching is definitely one of his talents and the kids all love him.
I think my current calling is always my favorite calling because it provides me with the growth, opportunities, and associations I need at that time. I am preparing for a big calling change right now (next week it will all be announced), and it's amazing to watch Heavenly Father's hand in the whole thing. I'm excited to write about it once everything has happened.
Right now I am the secretary in the Stake RS Presidency...It has been amazing to be mentored by the women with whom I serve, and it has been an honor to listen to the Stake President speak on many more occasions than I normally would. I have received many, many revelations about how to do things better for my family because of time spent in this calling. Feeling the spirit so strongly in my meetings got me through a difficult time last year! Blessings...yes!
I love my calling now in the Primary presidency, for one of the reasons you mentioned...working with such amazing women. Like Jimmy, it has been my calling since the day we moved into the ward, and I was grateful for the opportunity to see Heavenly Father's hand in my life. Letting me know I was where I was supposed to be. I was talking with the Primary president just a couple days ago about callings/magnifying them/etc. and I don't always feel like I'm doing enough, or that I'm even capable of doing enough, but I feel grateful that Heavenly Father still wants what I can give.
