GOAL SETTING.

Photobucket
With the new year on our heels, I've started to think a bit about goal setting. For me, setting goals does not come easily. Maybe it's because I am very realistic, but I am often hesitant to set many goals or goals that seem unachievable. It's easy to write lengthy lists of an ideal life, but I'd rather focus on what I can actually accomplish. So, this week, I am concentrating on setting a few attainable goals for 2011.

How about you, do you have any tried and true suggestions for goal setting?

Last year I only set one goal -- and achieved it! I'm definitely going to do that again...although I can't decide what to pick!

I found that I have to declutter my life to make room for goals and things I want to accomplish. Set your priorities first. Write your goals. Write details on how to do it and give yourself a deadline. Let people know what you are planning and have them encourage you and maybe even check in with you to see how you are doing. Encourage yourself and don't listen to your inner negative thoughts. Reward yourself along the way and don't beat yourself up if you don't accomplish it quickly or how you'd originally thought it would happen. Think about your deadline and have a back up plan if LIFE gets in the way. But first you gotta want it. Don't set goals your heart isn't set to do. You first must want something so badly you'll do anything to accomplish it and then DO IT! A deadline is important because an infinite goal gives you an excuse not to do it.

Happy New Year and new resolutions!

I told Dusty that I want to start having a "goal setting" FHE on the Monday after Christmas, which we did in fact do...although it didn't go quite as planned. Does it ever? Anyway, we set goals in different areas of growth...physical, spiritual, educational/mental. I agree that we often set too many goals, and then they're lost in the day to day. Putting the goals somewhere public, like telling your best friend or publishing it on the blog makes me more likely to follow through, and putting them somewhere that I'll see daily allows me to evaluate easily. I'm sure you already thought of those things, but I think they really help.

P.S. Last year I only had one goal...so you could always keep it REALLY simple and you'd be very likely to achieve it. What I love about goals is that they give you something to wake up excited for each morning.

I think letting other people know your goals is a great way to stick to them, somehow I feel more accountable when other people are in on it.

I divide my goals into three categories: daily, weekly, and monthly. That way I have real, tangible, simple things that I can achieve. I look at the list about once a month just to remind myself of what I did well and what I can still improve upon. LOVE this blog!
